AS the premier league reached its mid-way point, and we close in on another exciting weekend of premier league action, this is what we know about the premier league big six teams so far:

ARSENAL: Unai Emery’s Arsenal has begun to take shape, but they are still a long way from challenging for the title. They have been devastatingly effective in front of goal this season scoring 46 goals behind only leaders Manchester city and Liverpool, but it is in defense that they have been most vulnerable conceding 31 goals, 2 more than relegation strugglers Newcastle. Though Unai emery hasn’t been helped with injuries and suspension to key components of his defense, he would still need time to get them challenging again for the Title. So far so good, there have been positives and they find themselves 3 points of fourth place, a good run could see them leapfrog their London rivals Chelsea in the race for the top 4.

End of Season Finish: 6th

Manchester United: Ole Ole Ole!!!, the names on every Manchester united fans lips as they went 5 in 5 after their Fa Cup triumph over Reading. Manchester United are back and playing with their swagger once again after a torrid time under Jose Mourinho. Ole Gunnar Solksjaer has gotten his beloved club playing with belief and more assuredness. He is getting the best out of Pogba and Rashford seems to be playing with more belief and freedom. This coming weekend against Tottenham would be a testament to just how far they have come. Should they win, Ed Woodward would have some decision on his hands to choose between him of Mauricio Pochettino come the summer transfer window.
End of Season Finish: 5th

CHELSEA: Maurizio Sarri’s men are currently holding on to fourth thanks to a sublime Eden hazard who has 10 goals and 9 assists so far in this campaign. This means Eden hazard has contributed to 50% of their total 38 goals this campaign and if out Maurizio Sarri’s men could struggle to cope without him. IN their defence, they have hit the woodwork 15 times this season and are currently leading the league in that regard. Speaking of defence, it seems the trust Maurizio sarri has given to his pair of Rudiger and David Luiz seems to have paid off with the second most clean sheets in the premier league behind league leaders Liverpool. Chelsea recently announced the acquisition of the American starlet Christian Pulisic who would be joining them from next season, and if such shrewd business is conducted upfront this January, they could become Darkhorse’s in the premier league title race.

End of Season Finish: 4th

Tottenham Hotspur: It all looked doom and gloom for Tottenham after the close of the transfer window, with no signing and news of their stadium no yet ready, everyone wrote of Mauricio Pochettino’s men, but half way through, they are locked in a title race without spending a single dime. Tottenham have shamed the doubters and naysayers and shown just how far they have come under their manager. Son heung min has been a joy to watch and Lucas Moura has come out of his shell to be a key contributor to their title charge. Doing their business away from the limelight, Spurs are the Dark Horses to win the title this year but if that is to happen, they would have to improve their recent record against the top 6 this season.

End of Season Finish: 3rd

Manchester City: The Champions are beaming after their 2-1 win over Liverpool last Thursday. It was a fight that made Guardiola “park the bus” against the manager with more wins against him than anyone. Manchester city over the Christmas period showed us how important Fernandinho is to their system and he delivered against Liverpool a display of sublime class. It is now a three-horse race and Manchester city and pep Guardiola will be desperate to hold onto their premier league crown. The league’s top scorers would not want to let them just yet and know that any mistake could see Liverpool pull away and chasers spurs leapfrog them in the coming weeks. Although they have showed vulnerability at times going by the losses to crystal palace and Leicester city, Pep Guardiola would do well to ensure there are no further slip ups.

End of Season Finish: 2nd

Liverpool: After the whistle on Thursday and how pep Guardiola had setup for the final minutes of the game was a testament to just how Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool had come from their champions league final showing last season. The league leaders are 4 points clear despite the loss to Pep’s Guardiola’s men. Klopp is currently in a dilemma with 3 of his senior defenders currently side-lined going into the weekend clash with Brighton and Hove Albion. With Van Dijk the only senior defender currently available, Klopp would be looking to Fabinho or youngster Ki Jana However to partner with him before the senior defenders arrive. Should they keep up the form that took them to the summit for the first half of the season, they should pick up their first title for almost 30 years.

End of Season Finish: 1st

The Second half of the season promises to be a very interesting one and should it be as good as the first it promises to be one of the greatest title races in recent times. Would Liverpool finally break their duck and win their first Premier League title in almost 30 years or would Manchester city retain the champions league crown for the first time in a decade or would spurs usurp everyone. Being a Liverpool supporter , my personal preference is for Liverpool to win the title but the coming months would be one of grit ,character and doggedness and a true survival of the Fittest.
